Derby’s Hannah Minnis – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Derby golfer Hannah Minnis told VYPE in a recent interview “my favorite part of being on this team is all the friends I have with me at practice. This year I was able to convince a couple of my friends who already had played golf before to actually come out for the team, and we’ve had so much fun this year”.

As for which teammate has impacted her the most Minnis said “During my freshman year Macey definitely left the biggest impression on me. I’m not sure how she knew who I was, but on that very first day when upper class man were picking freshman to show around and she knew my name and picked me. She made me feel welcome right from the get-go”.

From the beginning of her journey with the Panther golf team Minnis has gone from “being super nervous going into my freshman year of golf and wondering where I’d be on the team, to then being able to play in varsity tournaments that same year. It felt good to be successful after being so worried”. This season Minnis has been working to “make it to the second day of the state championship”.

Aside from golf Minnis has represented Derby High School in her capacity as “KAY Club president for two years and helped lead several community service projects, including making dog toys for the Kansas Humans Society and blankets for the Ronald McDonald House Foundation”. She has also been a member of the Derby soccer team and the Philharmonic Orchestra.
