Derby athlete Natalie Wilson recently spoke with VYPE in an interview to discuss her life.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My goals for this year are to take in every moment and opportunity of my senior year before I leave next year. I would also like to get into college and apply for scholarships.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
My family and I had season passes to Worlds of Fun over the summer and we went lots of times. That was really fun to just get to have family time like that carved out somewhere where we all could have fun together.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My English teacher, Mrs. Schock is my favorite because I have had her for the last 3 years in a row and she knows me really well and is able to challenge me and make learning interesting and cool.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
I remember at the league tournament, I was playing really well, better than I had been, and almost my whole family got to come out and watch. I remember this moment when my mom finally got there, and she knew how I’d been doing. She rode up in the cart and she smiled at me and then I hugged her. It was an awesome feeling knowing I did well and my family was proud of me.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
I would say Hannah Minnis has left the biggest impression on me because she is actually the reason I’m doing golf in the first place and I have learned so much from her about the sport. She is just a great resource and teacher and is also a great friend and has been for a long time.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Definitely the people. Hannah and Katie were already two of my best friends, so getting to hang out with them all the time has been awesome. Addy is a really great addition to our group and we all just have a lot of fun. When we go on van rides to tournaments, we end up laughing and talking the whole way there and back.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
I would go to Disney World and I would take my family and probably a couple friends too.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I would get a TV and a mini fridge for my room.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I help with our church’s Upward soccer and basketball leagues, which my dad runs. I help referee soccer and I coach a basketball team.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I also play basketball, and I have since I was little. I am the social media editor for the yearbook, and I do that because it’s what I want to do for my career in the future. I am also in choir, both Philharmonic Choir and Madrigals, and I do that because I have always loved to sing and singing in choirs is one of my favorite ways to perform because I like it better than performing alone.
VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
I am the NHS Treasurer for our school’s chapter, and I am also the Student Council Executive President.
