Having just wrapped up his final wrestling season, Derby’s Layne Sweat is prepping to take his place on the baseball field. Telling VYPE that “the end goal would be to get that state championship.”
Sweat shared with us that his favorite thing about this team is “the work ethic; everyone comes every day pretty much ready to go to work. We are also finding extra time to practice and show up early for extra cuts. Also, everyone on the team has pretty much grown up together, so we have great team chemistry.”
The chemistry that led to one of Sweat’s favorite memories of “playing 14u summer ball with all my friends staying in hotels and playing with them was really fun.”
One of the teammates Sweat says has had the most significant impact on him is “Kade Sheldon.” Explaining to us that “he has always pushed me to go hit as often as we can and get extra work in.”
Of course, if all of this hasn’t conveyed to you Sweat’s love for the game, let us leave you with this. When we asked Layne Sweat what he would do if we gave him a hypothetical $500, his response was, “I would spend it on a bat and a bucket of baseballs.”
