The Heisman High School Scholarship recognizes high school seniors by rewarding male and female scholar-athletes who understand that the most important victories happen not only on the field but also in their school and communities.
Derby’s Morgan Haupt, a first team all-league pitcher, is the perfect candidate for this scholarship.
“The concept of the Heisman Scholarship Program encompasses everything about me,” Haupt said. “While I love playing sports, my education is my number one priority. I also enjoy participating in other school activities while helping others in my community.”
Haupt’s softball season last season was filled with so many accolades including all-state second team and all-league first team. Improving on Derby’s finish at state last season is Haupt’s main motivator this season.
“My desire to return to state motivates me to do everything I can on the field, in the gym, and in the dugout to improve myself and guide/support my team,” Haupt said. “There are only a few girls returning from the third place state team (our freshmen year) and I want to repeat this as a senior.”
Outside of softball, Haupt also participates in cross country, KAY Club, National Honor Society, Panther Paws, Marching Band, Symphonic Band and Pep Band.
Haupt hopes to play softball in college and then major in Biology/Pre-Med.
