Brodie Knight is entering his final season with Derby soccer looking to make the most of his time with his teammates while helping the Panthers put together a winning season.
Knight, who primarily played left back last season, is excited for one final opportunity to compete alongside his teammates.
“I’m most excited to train with all my teammates and win games, and have some fun while it is my last season with Derby soccer,” Knight said.
Knight put in work throughout the offseason to prepare for his senior season. He participated in Derby’s summer workouts and attended college showcases before getting additional individual training with the Newman University coach.
“I went to summer workouts for the high school then I also did college showcases,” Knight said. “Then I did some personal training with the Newman coach.”
One of Knight’s biggest areas of focus was improving his finishing. While his primary position has been left back, he wants to become more dangerous offensively and be capable of finishing opportunities in tight spaces.
“Scoring as a striker,” Knight said when discussing his area for improvement. “I usually play left back so I had to train on my finishing in tight spaces.”
Knight enters the season after earning honorable mention all-league recognition last year. He finished with seven assists while playing primarily as a defender.
This season, Knight has set individual and team goals that go beyond simply improving his own game. He hopes to earn second-team all-league recognition while helping Derby finish with a winning record.
“I’d like to make at least the second team league,” Knight said. “I would like us as a team to have a winning season.”
With another offseason of preparation behind him, Knight enters his final high school season determined to contribute wherever Derby needs him. After establishing himself as a reliable defender and playmaker, he hopes to add more offensive production and help the Panthers finish the season on a high note.
