For Kaelin Scarth, his final season at Derby High School is about making the most of every opportunity — especially the chance to play alongside the seniors he has grown up with in the program.
“I’m most excited for playing at Derby for my final season with my seniors,” Scarth said.
The Panthers’ offensive lineman has spent the offseason preparing himself for a bigger role while continuing to pursue opportunities beyond the high school level. Scarth trained with James Tabor and PIAthletes and attended three Mega Camps and two Power Four camps during the offseason.
That work has also focused on improving one of the areas Scarth wanted to develop most: his speed.
“This year I want to improve on my speed,” Scarth said.
He put that goal into action through multiple speed-workout sessions, lowering his 40-yard dash time to 4.84 seconds.
The offseason preparation has given Scarth a chance to sharpen his athletic ability while entering his final season with lofty individual goals. After earning all-state honors previously, he wants to take another step forward this season.
“Some goals I have individually is to make all state again and even a top 11 selection,” Scarth said.
While individual recognition is important, Scarth’s biggest goal remains centered on the Panthers. He wants his final season at Derby to end with the program reaching the top of Class 6A.
“This year I want my team to accomplish the ultimate goal and win a state championship,” Scarth said.
With his senior season approaching, Scarth has one final opportunity to turn the offseason work into results on Friday nights — and help Derby chase the championship that has become the ultimate goal.
