Lillian Like is ready to show off her volleyball skills this season. As an outside hitter for Derby, Like has been working on increasing her vertical and different attack shots. With all this work that Like has been putting into volleyball, she has hopes to be selected for an AVCTL team honors. Last season, Like was named Honorable Mention for the AVCTL. This honor was earned with her 241 attack kills, the most on her team.
Only a junior, Like knows the importance of having a strong team. “My team goals are to create a positive environment so everyone is comfortable with playing their best game.” With a positive environment and everyone playing their best volleyball, Derby is bound to reach the goal set by Like and her teammates to win a sub state title.
“Over the offseason, I was at the gym working on my vertical, endurance, and speed.” In addition to time spent in the gym, Like went to overnight and day volleyball training camps at Bethel College, Cowley County Community College, and Kansas University.
Although Like is only a junior and is not sure where she will be attending college, she would like to continue playing volleyball at the collegiate level. Like has a dream to become an elementary school teacher in the future. After school volleyball is finished, Like plays club volleyball for Kansas Rise Volleyball Club. At the high school, Like is involved in National Honor Society, STUCO, Student 2 Student, and is the boy’s volleyball club manager.
