Derby soccer player Jaden Wilson spoke to VYPE in a recent interview saying “My favorite part of being on this team is the friendships that come out of it. Our bond is what makes showing up every day so much fun. The girls, coaches, and everyone who supports us are so lively and great to be around”.
“Soccer has taught me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. It has shown me that even though I am not as experienced or confident as others on my team, they have supported and helped me every step of the way. They believe in me as much as I do for them” said Wilson.
When she isn’t on the pitch Wilson can be found participating in “Americorp, which is a company that allows high school students to help/tutor elementary school students! It is great and I love seeing the kids every day”.
As we discussed things that motivate her Wilson recalled a piece of advice she once received — sharing “to do hard things not for yourself, but do it for the person next to you, your teammate, or others. It just makes you think about more than yourself and that you aren’t alone, you’re doing this together, so hold yourself accountable”.
In addition, she spoke about her mother saying “My mom inspires me for sure! She is a nurse and works 3 jobs just so that she can give her kids a life with no worry! She pushes me to be the best I can be every day, and she is truly my best friend. She is the most hardworking person I know and I hope I grow up to be just like her”.
