Q&A with Derby’s Avery Kelley – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by UpLink

Derby softball player Avery Kelley spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals this year are to get better everyday and be a good role model to my younger teammates.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory is the state tournament for softball and basketball.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Addy brown because she was a good teammate and friend.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on the team is how close the girls become during season.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I work at the Lords diner, some evenings, and I help out with local community events like Christmas in the park and kids bingo at churches.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am the Vice President of the National Honor Society

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

My sport has taught me how to work as part of a team, and it has taught me to advocate for myself.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

The best advice anyone has ever given me, was to work hard in school, because now I have a full academic scholarship.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

My parents inspire me because they’re both very hard workers and great people.

I want to give a shout out and big thank you to my parents for always believing in me and pushing me to be my best in everything I do.
