VYPE was able to speak with Derby’s Easton Hendrick to discover what his athletic endeavors have been like.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
A particular goal I have is to get acclimated to college life and start out well academically. I also look forward to possibly being involved in athletics at the collegiate level.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
I would say I had fun throughout the whole previous year, from football season to being involved in track. Attending Senior prom was also a highlight.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My favorite teacher was my freshman Spanish teacher, Mrs. Carter. Not only did she make Spanish simple to understand, she was all around fun to talk to.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
I have a lot of great moments regarding athletics, but one highlight would be winning the 6A State Championship game against Blue Valley North in 2020 and getting on the field in that gameas a Sophomore.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Whether they know it or not, everyone I’ve met through athletics has taught me something. I’ve picked up things such as discipline, commitment, character, and hard work.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on the track team is the competition. Being able to test my abilities against others to truly so how my hard work pays off is something I am always grateful for.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
I would love to go to either Japan or somewhere in the Caribbean with my family and a select few of my friends. I’ve chosen these places because I’ve always been interested in Japanese culture/history. And I’ve been to the Bahamas once before and loved the experience.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
If I was required to spend all of it, I would buy some food, some clothes, maybe a video game. Then I’d spend the rest on treating my friends to a good time.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I have participated in numerous community service projects, the most notable being those led by the Kappa League organization. We have helped at the Kansas Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity. I have also been involved service projects with Derby Football/One Degree Compass. We have assisted places such as The Lord’s Diner and Convoy of Hope. We’ve also done numerous things to provide for families in the community of Derby.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I’ve never been involved in any clubs through my years. I’ve always been focused on athletics. Looking back, I do wish I joined a club or two just to broaden my horizons and meet different people.
VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
No, I am not currently involved in academic excellence groups. But I was awarded by Wichita State University for being in the top 10% of my class, along with other students from around the state of Kansas.
