VYPE some with Derby Track athlete Miles Minson to find out about his future plans.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
There are a few goals this year that I want to achieve, which start with wanting to lower my times for my events in track and field. Which lead to my big goal of this year which is obtaining an offer for college athletics to continue my track career as I start college.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
The most fun that I’ve had in the last year was when I ran indoor track at shocker track club during the indoor track season. The environment was always amazing to be in and there was always time to have fun while getting better daily.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
My favorite teacher is my homeroom teacher Matt vanboening. I’ve been in mr. Vans homeroom since freshman year, even after Covid shut down and put the real high school experience on pause for a whole year. Mr. Van still managed to keep in touch with his “homeroomies” and see how we were doing. Mr.van has always been there and supported me in my athletics and my education. He has been a great mentor and role model for me and I’ll never forget what he’s done during my time with him in high school.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory is when all of us varsity runners went to the Kansas relays meet in Lawrence to run. While my event got canceled both days it was still a super fun experience and cool to see all of the college runners I look up to and see as the big dogs in person.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
I don’t think I could list just one teammate that’s left the biggest impression on me, because all of them are unique and amazing individuals. However the ones that I’ve gotten a lot closer to and have got to know better have really made this year it’s own experience. A lot of them I would consider my good friends, and even if our roads part after this year it was still an awesome experience to get to have my senior year with them.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on my team is the bond we all have. Even though some of us have our disagreements and disputes here and there were all family. And we all cheer for each other and pick each other up when we need it. There isn’t anything that stops us from hyping each other up before our races or events and complementing one another for our performances. And that’s something on a team that I see as a necessity to be successful.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
If I could go anywhere for vacation I would definitely go to the coast, I’m not sure really where on the coast because I’ve never gone before but just somewhere where I could catch a sunset over the beach. And I would definitely take my close friends and go make it a lifelong memory for all of us.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
If I had 500$ to spend in the next 24 hours I am most definitely either ordering more track spikes or I’m using it to buy as many food gift cards as I can so I can use them for food after practice.
