Entering the 2022 season the Derby girls tennis team under the leadership of coach Dennis Burns, is poised for a solid season despite replacing several players from a year ago.
Coach Burns said the team is young, but the JV players who will be playing varsity this season should grow into their roles.
“There will be a lot of new faces on the varsity squad this year. Chloe Palivan will be the returning varsity player. We will be expecting a bunch of our JV players from last year to step up to the challenge,” said coach Burns.
Palivan will play singles and is likely the top player on the team. Now in her senior season, Palivan has an opportunity to leave her mark on the program.
Isabella Nikolova is an exciting, young sophomore who brings a lot of talent to the court for Derby. Coach Burns called her, “a talented athlete who should be impressive in doubles this season.”
Another player to watch is Abby Kuhn, who coach Burns calls a hard worker and a steady player. Her consistency is important for Derby this season.
Also look for Chloe Enslinger, who also plays softball for Derby. She has the work ethic to develop into a solid tennis player.
Others to watch include seniors Aryanna Wright, and Kylee Cotton, junior Emma Baldwin and sophomore Emily Crowell.
