Starting her volunteer work when her oldest son Matthew was in kindergarten, Emily Hedden, has been going strong in volunteer mode since 2005. Currently she holds the position of the Bowling Booster Mom for the Derby High School bowling team as well as the Hospitality Chair for the school.
Previously Emily volunteered in various classrooms as her children went through elementary school, helped with the parent teacher organization for Derby Elementary and Middle School, as well as volunteering with the high school band and cross-country team.
“I love meeting new parents who have kids in the same activities as mine,” said Emily. “I also like to make sure that the coaches, directors and students are taken care of during their activities and events.”
Not only does she love her various volunteer roles and work, but she thinks it is an important part of her role as a parent and mother.
“I think it is important for parents to get involved so that they see what all it takes to help with activities run smoothly and they are also more aware of what is expected of their child in those activities,” said Emily.
Emily has been married to her husband David for 26 years with three kids, Alex a senior, Colby a junior, and Matthew a Derby High School graduate. Being a stay-at-home mom was Emily’s main role for many years up until last year when she accepted an office position at a local irrigation company. Growing up Emily played tennis at Derby High School and grew up as an Air Force dependent.
