Kyler Demel of Derby Middle School is certainly one to watch this season. Demel is a standout softball player in the Derby School District.
“I lead by example and always work hard to be a good teammate,” Demel said. “I have a strong work ethic and will step in anywhere a coach needs me to. Sports is about working to improve your game so I am constantly working to get better to be better for my team.”
Demel plans on playing in the middle infield and outfield this season, as her focus in the offseason was building strength and speed to help improve her game.
“I am involved in summer weights training as well as speed and agility training,” Demel said. “I play club softball all year round for the Kansas Renegades 16U Gold.”
Softball isn’t the only sport Demel plays, as he is a three-sport athlete for Derby. She also plays basketball and volleyball. Outside of sports, she is also involved in the Student Council.
While she still has plenty of time to determine her post-secondary path, Demel would like to play softball in college.
