Derby’s Caleb Day – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Caleb Day is a senior at Derby High School, where he competes as a midfielder on the Panthers soccer squad. The three-year starter returns for his final season on the pitch as the leading goal scorer in 2020. Day scored seven times last season with his final goal giving the Panthers a regional championship as Derby upset Campus on the road, 1-0.

“[Caleb’s] very technical,” coach Paul Burke said. “He’s good with the ball on his foot. He likes to create things with good passes. He’s grown into more of a goal scorer, and we’re going to need him to do more as a scorer this season.”

Day also added two assists last season and was named to the first team in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League. Burke has seen the improvement as an attacking facilitator in the offseason and as a leader as well.

“He leads by example,” Burke said. “He works hard every day and is great in the classroom. He’s well respected by his teammates. He never gets too high and never gets down on himself.”

Earlier this summer, Day verbally committed to play soccer at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

“I visited campus and met with the coaches,” Day said. “I went up for a camp, and the coaches stayed in contact with me and even came down for a few of my games.”

Day also committed to the NAIA program because of its engineering program, as he plans to study civil engineering while at Benedictine.

Day would like to thank his dad, James, for the time committed to helping him improve throughout his soccer career.
