Eli Gibbs is wrapping up his senior season of bowling for the Derby Panthers. During the season, Gibbs set an individual goal of strengthening his mental game and providing senior leadership for the team. Gibbs and his teammates have their sights set on the win at the upcoming state meet. “I believe we have a very good lineup of bowlers with strong potential to take the title of state champ.”
During the season, Gibbs was looking forward to seeing his bowling improve, but the favorite tournament Gibbs was most looking forward to competing in was League. “In the past, I have put up high scores during this tournament and wanted to win it once again, individually, and as a team.”
Gibbs shared with VYPE Magazine how last year’s season wasn’t the expected outcome he had hoped for. “I spent a lot of time improving myself after last year, so I don’t have a repeat of that.” Gibbs focused on specific skills in the offseason to improve his season this year. “I’ve really focused a lot on increasing my rev rate as well as strengthening my basic bowling skill: backswing, approach, and my focus.”
Gibbs main activity is bowling, and he will finish out his high school career as a panther this spring. After graduation, he plans to attend the University of Kansas to finish his bachelors in Chemistry. Gibbs has taken advantage of dual credit class through Butler County Community College. His long-term career goal is to become a medical doctor through KU Medical School.
