Derby’s Dallas Metzger – Vype KS Poll Winner Presented By WSU Tech

By Matt Browning

One of the things Dallas Metzger altered to his game over the offseason didn’t specifically have anything to do with basketball.

Metzger made it a point to focus on his diet in order that his body is in peak position throughout the season.

“I’ve also spent a lot of time eating the right things and being in the weight room,” Metzger said. “I feel so much lighter and quicker on my feet now.”

The quickness is something that Metzger hopes translates to the court. Already a prolific outside shooter, Metzger worked on other ways to score.

“Some things that I wanted to improve on was my ability to get to the basket and how my body is,” Metzger said. “During the offseason I spent a lot of time in the gym getting better at getting to the basket.”

Metzger averaged 14 points and four rebounds last season, as well as shooting 37 percent from the three-point line. He set the Panthers’ single-game three-pointers made record and single-season three-pointers made.

He was a first team all-league selection and honorable mention all-state.

While all of those things are something Metzger is proud of, he wants to focus on things besides statistics this season.

“I’m most excited for the memories that are going to be made,” Metzger said. “I’m excited that I get to play with my friends one last time.”
