
Derby girls basketball player Avery Kelley spoke to VYPE to discuss her life.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals this year are to beat my previous stats and bring energy to practice and games.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory is the state tournament for softball and basketball.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Addy Brown because she was a good teammate and friend.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on the team is how close the girls become during season.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I work at the Lords diner, some evenings, and I help out with local community events like Christmas in the park and kids bingo at churches.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I am the vice president of national honor Society.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
My sport has taught me how to work as part of a team, and it has taught me to advocate for myself
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
The best advice anyone has ever given me, was to work hard in school, because now I have a full academic scholarship.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
My parents inspire me because they’re both very hard workers and great people.
