Q&A with Derby’s Avery Kelley – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Visit Wichita

VYPE sat down with Derby volleyball player Avery Kelley to learn what her goals are for the season.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year is to continue my 4.0 GPA and beat the stats I had my previous year in all my sports.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun i had in the past year was when my whole family went to Colorado for a week and we did white water rafting and did a lot more fun things.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher was Mr. Jeffery but he just moved to Mulvane so I will miss him helping me out in math class and always handing me pitt state brochures trying to get me to go there.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory is this previous softball state tournament in the first round when we won last minute to advance.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Addy Brown because she’s my cousin and so we had a very close bond all ready but she also always encouraged me and wanted me to be my best.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team is we are all each others best friends and want each other to succeed.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

I would go to South Carolina and stay in a beach house with my 2 best friends Ava and Carsen.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

I would buy a dog probably a Dalmatian.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I volunteer at the Lords Diner with my grandparents and Mom sometimes and at the end of this month my mom and I along with about 15 other people are going to Honduras to help kids there and provide oral hygiene.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am in National Honor Society because It encourages me to get involved in my community and it looks good on resumes and college applications.

VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

I am part of President’s Honor Roll at Butler Community College and Principals Honor Roll at Derby High.
