Getting to Know Derby’s Laci Simon’s – Presented by Madrocks

VYPE: What are your personal goals this year and how is the season going?

Laci: This season I am striving to get some state qualifying times as well as just enjoying the last season of high school swim. The season is currently going well. I recently qualified in a state relay and continue to practice and do my best to work toward goals.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

Laci: This last year, the most fun I have had was swimming with my future college swim team and the college visit.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade or coach and why?

Laci: Jimmy Adams, he has been my coach since I was 10. He has seen my progress in swimming and has helped me through the good and bad in life.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Laci: My favorite athletic memory would have to be being at League and jumping into the pool. The excitement of the coaches and all the athletes is an amazing feeling.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Laci: I am not sure I can pick just one, so Mia Starnes (Sunshine), Elizabeth Barclay, and Emery Squires are always there for me, and they are encouraging and can see the food in situations when it is hard to.

VYPE: Who on your team has the best impression of your coach and who says the funniest things during games?

Laci: Both Marlee Moeder and Izzy McCabe do a great job at doing impressions of Adams and keep the energy high with jokes and laughter.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Laci: For summer vacation I would love to go to Greece. I would take my mom with me.

VYPE: If we gave you 500 dollars and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, how would you spend it?

Laci: I would spend the money on other people. Get them stuff that they either needed or wanted and the remainder of the money for dinner.

VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.

Laci: Mom- Thank you for always being at my side and taking millions of pictures at every athletic event. Dad- Thank you for always being an ear that will listen and a shoulder to lean on. Adams- Thank you for being a voice of reason and all the advice throughout the years Thank you for pushing me to swim different events even when I thought I couldn’t.

Danny- Thank you for pushing me past my limits and encouraging me to have more fun in life. Pinkerton- Thank you for always encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and have fun.
